Postdoctoral scientist and/or PhD students

The Institutes for Virology (G. Frascaroli), Molecular Virology (F. Kirchhoff), Medical Microbiology and Hygiene (G. van Zandbergen) and Microbiology and Biotechnology (C. Riedel) at Ulm University and Ulm University Clinic invite applications for the following positions in a newly established research program of the Ulm University funded by the Carl Zeiss Foundation.
The vacancies are initially limited for 2 years. There is a possibility of an employment extension subsequently.

The group is dedicated to studying the biology of human macrophages in the context of infection. The aims are to understand which innate immune responses of macrophages are induced by different pathogens and to elucidate the evasion mechanisms these pathogens have evolved to counteract these immune responses. The pathogens studied by the group include viruses (HIV, HCMV), bacteria (Listeria monocytogenes) and eukaryotic parasites (Leishmania major). Positions are available immediately and will be filled as soon as suitable candidates are identified. Remuneration will be according to German public service regulation (TV-L).

requirements

Candidates should have a degree in biology or a related field and are expected to have a strong interest in molecular biology, infectious diseases and cell culture techniques. Experiences in immunology are a plus. Superior motivation, willingness and good communication skills in English are prerequisites.

The University of Ulm and the University Medical Center Ulm is committed to increase the share of women in research and teaching positions and therefore explicitly encourage female candidates to apply.

Job sharing is always possible for full time positions (Postdoctoral scientist).
Physically disabled applicants receive favourable consideration when equally qualified.
Depending on the institute, employment takes place through the administration department of the University of Ulm or the University Medical Center Ulm in the name and on behalf of the federal state of Baden-Württemberg.
