Institute of Immunology and Immunotherapy, College of Medical and Dental Sciences
Immunology is at the forefront of medical research in Birmingham and we are leaders of this exciting, fast-evolving field. With one of the greatest concentrations of scientists and clinicians in the world and an international reputation for research in immunology, inflammation, infection and cancer research, the Institute provides an ideal environment to explore basic and translational aspects of immunology and immunotherapy. As a Birmingham Fellow within the Institute of Immunology and Immunotherapy, you will work in a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment with access to cutting-edge facilities supporting both basic and translational research. This will include the Institute of Translational Medicine (www.itmbirmingham.co.uk) with access to over £5.3m of new infrastructure focused on supporting research into immune-mediated inflammatory diseases and the NIHR Clinical Research Facility enabling patients to take part in experimental and complex clinical research studies.
We are seeking to attract fellows with skills aligned to our key research strengths in immune regulation; cancer immunology; human virology and gut and liver inflammation. The Institute incorporates three major centres of excellence including:
The Birmingham Centre of Excellence in Immunology, previously funded through three cycles as the ‘MRC Centre for Immune Regulation’;
Cancer Research UK Birmingham Centre; which has recently received £5m of funding and will open in April 2017
Birmingham NIHR Biomedical Research Centre in Inflammation which recently attracted £12m of funding into the University as part of Birmingham Health Partners (see www.birminghamhealthpartners.co.uk ) for research into inflammatory diseases. The Centre will launch in April 2017.
