Full Professor of Veterinary Immunology

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University invites candidates to apply for the position of Full Professor of Veterinary Immunology.  This fulltime, tenured position oversees all functional and operational activities of the Division of Immunology within the Department of Infectious Diseases and Immunology (I&I). We are particularly seeking individuals studying mucosal immunology, however, all areas of Veterinary immunology including, but not limited to clinical infectiology, virology, infection biology, and molecular host defense will be considered. Successful candidates will demonstrate academic excellence and leadership. In addition to leading an internationally recognized research team, the candidate is expected to contribute to the ongoing innovation of the division’s strong graduate educational program through mentorship and teaching. She/he will manage a diverse team of senior and junior scientists, PhD students and technicians.

This department comprises the Divisions of Virology, Infection Biology, Immunology, Molecular Host Defence, and Clinical Infectiology. Immunology is a pillar of the university-wide One Health research program, which has a special focus on mucosal immunology. It also contributes to Utrecht Life Sciences, a joint venture between the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Science and the University Medical Centre Utrecht (UMCU). This highly collaborative environment offers cutting-edge multidisciplinary research with outstanding facilities including expertise on organoids and other complex cell systems, pathology, advanced imaging, single cell analysis, proteomics, metabolomics, lipidomics, and pathology.

We offer a fulltime permanent position. The gross salary varies, depending on previous qualifications and experience, between € 5,582 and € 8,127 per month (full time appointment in scale H2 of the Collective Labour Agreement of the Dutch Universities). Salaries are supplemented with a holiday allowance of 8% and a yearend bonus of 8.3% per year. In addition, Utrecht University offers an excellent pension plan, partially paid parental leave, a minimum of 29 days of holidays per year and flexible employment conditions. Successful candidates will ideally meet the following requirements:

  • PhD degree in the field of (veterinary) biomedicine;
  • Affinity for Veterinary Immunology;
  • Excellent background and track record in Mucosal Immunology research;
  • Successful track record in obtaining external funding (EU, national funding agencies, government, commercial partners);
  • Preferably a senior teaching qualification or equivalent;
  • Proven management experience;
  • Team player;
  • Good oral and written communication skills;
  • Experience with knowledge dissemination and societal outreach;
  • Ability to sustain and grow an innovative academic research program.
